As rates of obesity and diabetes continue to rise in the US, many folks, including Jesse Rhodes, author of this post for Smithsonian think that much of the blame lies in the lack of proper food preparation skills. What do you think?
Is it time to bring back Home Ec?

I agree. There isn’t much common sense left these days for how to eat or take care of a home, etc. We have several generations that have learned the fast food lifestyle. I have watched multiple young people feed their kids soda in their baby bottles and give them a happy meal. I have watched couples give in to a little ones crys for McDonalds. Saying oh that’s all they’ll eat. They use no common sense that they are teaching their kids wrong on multiple levels. One they are the parent. Two the kids is starting out learning to get what they want. Three the kids is going to end up obese. We need to make home ec come back with modern thinking and educational tools that make it relevant to the youth. It is our responsibility as adults to train kids and youth how to eat, cook and care for the family and home. If we don’t, they teach themselves through the media and friends.
